Bio-lubricant produced via oscillatory flow reactor

Summary:

Researchers at TMU's Department of Biomedical Mechanics Engineering managed to produce bio-lubricants from waste cooking oils by means of advanced technology of oscillating reactors. Bio-lubricants as a new generation of lubricants are derived from the chemical modification of biomass-based oils and are one of the most important and essential loops in the chain of products produced in bio-refineries and are also a sustainable source for the future of lubricant industries. Masoud Dehghani, who conducted this research in the form of his master's thesis, said: "In this research, the discontinuous oscillatory laboratory reactor was designed, developed and evaluated in order to intensify the production process of the bio-lubricant."
He added that the two-stage transesterification reaction to produce Tertiaryl Propane ester (bio-lubricant) was used as an essential raw material for kitchen waste.
"The results at the end showed that the physicochemical characteristics of the bio-lubricant derived from edible waste oil are very well suited to the ISO VG10 standard for lubricants and can be used as a source of lubricating oil.
It is worth mentioning that this research was carried under the supervision of Dr. Barat Ghobadian, a member of the Faculty of Agriculture.
