Expansion of academic ties between Iran and Armenia stressed


In a meeting held between TMU’s head of the international unit and director of the Office of International Scientific Collaboration of the University of Armenia, the two sides emphasized the development of bilateral academic and academic relations.

The meeting was attended by Hakopian, Armenian Scientific Advisor to Iran and Gregorian, Third Secretary of the Armenian Embassy in Iran, Dr. Shojaossadati, Director of TMU’s International Unit, Dr. Saeedi, Director of the Office of Scientific and International Collaboration, and Dr. Zamir, Deputy Director of the International Office of TMU.

At this meeting, Dr Saeedi, director of the Office of Scientific and International Collaboration of the University, first offered a short history for Tarbiat Modares University and said: "One of the important characteristics of Tarbiat Modares University is that it is a graduate university and admits only master and doctorate students. It is also a comprehensive university and contains all disciplines such as engineering, basic sciences, humanities, arts, medical sciences and agriculture, which allows us to provide interdisciplinary research”.

He added that according to the world rankings based on Leiden Ranking System, Tarbiat Modares University is among the 400 top universities of the world and it is the second best comprehensive university of Iran.

Dr. Saeedi noted that TMU has about 700 faculty members, 170 of whom are full-professors. There are also 5300 graduate students and 3,500 Ph.D. students currently studying at the university and it has offered more than 30,000 alumni to Iranian community.

Dr. Shojaossadati was the next speaker who said: “Iran and Armenia are neighbors and friends and there is a deep cultural relationship between the two countries, and our communication needs to be more and wider and, given the presence of good universities in Armenia, we can expand our academic cooperation. “We can cooperate in holding of joint courses, recruit Armenian professors, conduct joint research projects, carry out student exchange in some disciplines etc”. He added.

Armenian scientific and cultural advisor, Mr. Hakopian went on to introduce the Armenian educational system and said: "Science in Armenia has a long history and Armenia has made a lot of progress in the field of IT, as a result of which the world's largest companies in the field of IT have established offices in Armenia.

He added: “At present, the value of IT production in Armenia is $ 500 million, and the Armenian government aims to increase it to $ 1 billion per year”.

He stated: Yerevan State University and Yerevan Polytechnic University enjoy high educational quality. In two fields of mathematics and physics, Armenian students achieve top positions in scientific Olympiads.

“A significant number of Iranian students study at Armenian universities and about 400 Iranian students presently study at Yerevan Medical University”. He added.

He commented on the exchange of professors and students in order to boost the relations between the two countries and said: "As two neighboring countries, we have to exploit each other's achievements, and since we have Yerevan Oriental School, relationship with Iran and cooperation with Tarbiat Modares University can be considered an advantage in this regard”.

Referring to the MoU signed between the two universities, Dr. Shojaossadati said: “we can cooperate in the areas of professors and students exchange, holding joint courses and offering of Persian language and Iranology programs”.

At the end of this meeting, the TMU’s Symbol was donated to the guests.
